Does the government help pay for assisted living?

Many families may have trouble paying for assisted living since the monthly costs can range quite a bit and the average cost of assisted living is $3000 a month. The majority of the time it is the residents and their families that pay for the monthly costs of assisted living. But there is some help offered by the government for assistance in paying for assisted living.

The VA or the Veterans Administration offers some help for eligible veterans thru their Aid & Attendance and Housebound benefits program. Visit the VA website for more information on these benefits and who can qualify.

Long term care insurance policies can reimburse residents and their families for some costs associated with assisted living.

Medicare generally does not pay for assisted living. Medicare only covers skilled nursing facilities. Medicaid may help pay for some types of long term care, but coverage and qualifications vary from state to state.
